This year's Philosophers' Rally will be preceded by a special workshop revolving around the topic of content: From Content to Contents and Back .
“What is content?” – this short question happens to be one of the most complex and important ones addressed in the contemporary philosophy of language and mind. Recent discussions concerning the notion of content revolve around the idea of content pluralism: many philosophers assume that it is in principle possible for a single utterance or thought to express (without being ambiguous) contents of different types (moderate contextualism) as well as to express different contents of a single type (theories that combine narrow and wide approach to content, pluripropositionalism). The aim of the workshop is to critically examine various assumptions made by these theories and their rivals and to discuss general methodological issues concerning semantic concepts of meaning and content .
